Qianhai reported double-digit growth in imports and exports in the first three quarters this year, a meeting on Qianhai’s economic performances disclosed Nov. 7.

The meeting was presided over by Tian Fu, director of the Authority of China (Guandong) Pilot Free Trade Zone Qianhai & Shekou Area, and attended by Du Peng, director of Qianhai Cooperation Zone Authority.

Official statistics showed that Qianhai reported a 26.2-percent growth in its imports and exports over the same period of last year.

The double-digit growth was made possible by a series of measures adopted to facilitate trade, according to an official with Shekou Customs, which has jurisdiction over the Qianhai & Shekou free trade area.

“Localized institutional innovations play an important role in the fast growth of imports and exports in Qianhai,” said the customs official.

Double-digit growths were also recorded in three other economic indicators, including the added value of enterprises registered in Qianhai (up 15 percent).

The actual utilization of foreign investment in the first three quarters in Qianhai reached US$3.266 billion, up 5.2 percent. It has more than doubled the city’s growth of 2.48 percent, and surpassed the national average of 2.88 percent in the same period of time.

Tian Fu pledged greater efforts in institutional innovations to continue to improve the business environment, deepen cooperation between Shenzhen and Hong Kong, and speed up the construction of the new urban center of Qianhai.

He urged all Qianhai officials to work harder to realize the annual growth targets by the year end.

Du Peng said it is important to push ahead with science and technology innovation in Qianhai, which is vital to the high-quality economic development. He also called for more new and effective measures to prevent and control risks.
